My History
AIM Universe is a housing developer that offers newly built and custom homes across Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Okinawa. At the heart of our business lies our original brand, “&RESORT HOUSE.” Built on the concept of a resort residence, our goal is to create homes that bring a touch of the extraordinary into everyday life—places where coming home feels like a genuine retreat.
When we talk about “resort,” we make a clear distinction from “sightseeing.” Sightseeing usually means spending a few days visiting famous spots, enjoying local food, and spending money on experiences. In contrast, our idea of a resort is about slowing down—staying in one place long enough to relax, unwind, and fully enjoy the moment. That’s why our vision is to build homes so comfortable that even after visiting a wonderful tourist destination, people find themselves thinking, “I can’t wait to go home.” In other words, we want the home itself to feel like the best resort of all. To make this possible, we pay special attention to how spaces are designed and equipped—particularly the rooftop terrace and the bathroom.
The bathroom, for example, was inspired by my own childhood experiences at my grandparents’ home. They had built an outdoor jet bath, which left a lasting impression on me. The bubbles created by the jet bath turned it into a playful space where children could spend time laughing and enjoying themselves. Even as a child, I remember spending 30 minutes or an hour there, completely immersed in the fun. That experience shaped my belief that bathrooms should be places where families can relax and connect naturally—even in today’s busy world of dual-income households. That’s why our bathrooms feature amenities like a television, a jet bath, and a mist sauna, allowing families to enjoy movies or videos while bathing. Such spaces help ease daily tension and stress, and their comfortable design even makes them a kind of “refuge” after a quarrel. It’s a place where frustration melts away with the steam, giving people a chance to calm down and reflect.
The rooftop terrace is another defining element of our “&RESORT HOUSE” brand. In dense urban areas, where the average lot size is around 30 tsubo (about 1,000 square feet), it’s difficult to have a garden. During a visit to one of our properties, I once saw children playing in a small inflatable pool on a narrow path next to the street—a dangerous situation that left a strong impression on me. To solve this, we decided to make effective use of the rooftop, which is often a wasted space. By providing standard features such as sofas, turf, and a 10-year FRP waterproof warranty, we created a safe, worry-free outdoor area. Families can use it for barbecues, camping, or simply relaxing with a drink under the night sky. Each of these thoughtful details contributes to the value of what we call a resort residence.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to move hearts and build communities—to create strong, beautiful homes and neighborhoods that will be loved for generations.
The Present
The needs and expectations for housing continue to evolve with time and location. At AIM Universe, we stay attuned to those changes and transform them into better home design.
The Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 created a powerful, nationwide demand for earthquake-resistant housing. In response, we equipped every home we build with seismic control systems that can reduce the shaking of a magnitude 7 earthquake by roughly 70% (based on manufacturer data). While many competitors adopted the technology temporarily due to its high cost, we made it a permanent standard—because a home is something you build for the people you love.
When I asked myself what kind of home I would choose if I were buying one for my own family, there was simply no other answer. We take pride in Japan’s earthquake and vibration control technologies, which represent a uniquely Japanese strength and something we can confidently share with the world.
Our pursuit of safety extends beyond earthquakes. In Okinawa, where typhoons are frequent, we install the same vibration-control systems in all our homes to minimize the effects of strong winds.
We also focused on laminated safety glass to address a common problem in the region—windows breaking due to flying debris during storms. This glass has a three-layer structure with a tough resin layer sandwiched between two panes, preventing objects from penetrating even when the glass cracks. Tests have shown that it can withstand blows from a hammer or crowbar without shattering.
The same laminated glass we introduced in Okinawa also helps protect homes in the Tokyo metropolitan area, where break-ins have been on the rise. During a conversation with a former Commissioner General of the National Police Agency—now an advisor to our company—I was told, “If you can delay an intruder for more than five minutes, the police can arrive in time to protect residents.” That insight led us to adopt laminated safety glass as a standard feature in all our homes in the Tokyo area. By delaying intrusion for even a few minutes, residents gain precious time to call for help or evacuate safely. This is now a standard feature throughout the capital region, ensuring families can live with peace of mind.
For our customers, a home must first and foremost be a safe haven before it is a personal resort.
While we design for comfort and enjoyment, we also act swiftly to address real-world risks such as earthquakes, typhoons, and crime.
For the Future
While Net Zero Energy Homes (ZEH) have recently gained attention, we are already looking further ahead. Electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to become the next alternative to traditional home storage batteries, as they come with large built-in capacities of 40–60 kWh. However, if all vehicles in Japan were to switch from gasoline to EVs, the country’s power supply might struggle to keep up, increasing the risk of widespread blackouts. That’s why we believe that homes should not only generate electricity through solar panels but also store it in EVs and, during emergencies, supply it back from the car to the home. With 40 kWh, a household can sustain essential electricity needs for about three days. Cars are no longer just a means of transportation—they are batteries for emergencies and an integral part of a home’s energy system.
To make this vision a reality, AIM Universe has partnered with Hyundai Mobility Japan Co., Ltd., a global automobile manufacturer, to launch next-generation homes that integrate EVs with residential power systems. This collaboration has allowed us to create smart, disaster-resilient homes that store “life-sustaining electricity” to keep families safe even in emergencies.
We have always valued staying several steps ahead of the times, recognizing that being a pioneer is key to defining future standards. Why do so many people use Microsoft Word and Excel? Among countless software options, why did they become the global standard? Because Microsoft was the first to monetize and scale its innovation—releasing great products early, creating the market itself, and establishing the standard.
We believe Japan’s housing industry and technology have enormous potential—on par with the country’s world-leading automotive sector. Every nation faces its own housing challenges, and by understanding local needs and providing Japan’s advanced technologies, we can contribute to improving living environments worldwide. We also believe that these efforts can help enhance Japan’s global reputation. Japan’s future should not be left solely to politics—companies like ours have a role to play as well. We will continue to anticipate new needs and remain a pioneer in homebuilding.
As a Japan-born developer, we are committed to creating strong, beautiful homes and communities that families can trust for generations to come.
